If I could choose one person to narrate the story of my life, it would be Dave Niehaus. He is the one person in my life I have never met, but has been with me ever since baseball entered my life. On the radio and on the television set, Dave Niehaus was one of the constants in my first years of learning and experiencing the game of baseball.
Along with Griffey, Ichiro, Sweet Lou, and Edgar, Niehaus is one guy that will forever be known as a Seattle Mariner and not anything else. He’s been at it since the Mariners were born in 1977 and is still with the team after 30 years. Dave Niehaus will forever be the voice of the Seattle Mariners. He was there in the expansion losing seasons, he was there for the magical ’95 ride, he was there to witness the future hall of famers, and he was there to watch the M’s win 116 games.
On July 27th Dave Niehaus will be honored with the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence. My Oh My! A Seattle Mariner will be making their way into baseball’s hall of honor!
One day, Niehaus will hang up the mic, but for now Seattle Mariner fans can savor and enjoy one of the most exuberant, exciting, and lively voices ever in the game of baseball.
So on Sunday I’ve got one thing we can do to celebrate Niehaus’ induction....
GET OUT THE RYE BREAD AND MUSTARD GRANDMA, IT IS GRAND SALAMI TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
