Blog Talk: Tim Lincecum wins the NL Cy Young Award

Geoff Baker from Seattle Times:
Right now, he has a Cy Young and zero World Series titles. The M's are down one Cy Young. But that's it. The world hasn't ended. And it's not as if the M's got hosed completely in the deal. Brandon Morrow has delivered two excellent seasons in the bullpen when the Mariners needed him most. He remains a key part of this rebuilding team's future and we've only started to see what he can do. Morrow in the bullpen helped keep the Mariners in a playoff hunt until early September of 2007, which is more than Lincecum has done for the pennant hopes of the Giants.
Steve Kelley from Seattle Times:
Sometimes the scouts are wrong. Sometimes a pitcher doesn't play to type. Sometimes a flexible flyer like Tim Lincecum gives lie to the measurables.

He is a pint-size power pitcher. A little guy with giddy-up. The kid next door, who just happens to have a 97-miles-per-hour fastball.

Seth Kolleon from Sports NW
Lincecum is not only the first University of Washington player to win a major baseball award, he’s the first to get even remotely close. Kevin Stocker finished 6th place in voting for the 1993 Rookie of the Year, which was unanimously awarded to Mike Piazza.

I'm so happy for Lincecum. He's basically shutdown any traditional baseball scout that has said his quirky delivery would hinder his ability. Not many people know that Lincecum never ices his arm. Never. Almost every top pitcher in the major leagues ices their arm after every start. Lincecum on the other hand never does.

I'm looking forward to see if he'll be able to exert the same dominance he has had this year, next season...It's always nice to see a former UW  Husky win at something...
