Bactol has become such a threat that teams are now afraid of punting the ball to Eastside on fourth down. We got a chance to ask Bactol a few questions.....
Eastside Catholic has shook up 3A football and has sort of become the "cinderella" team of the state tournament. Is the team at all surprised by the success? If not, why?
This season is no surprise to us at all. We expected this out of ourselves since the beginning of the season and this is our year that most of us have been waiting for. We have 31 seniors on this year's squad and most of us having been playing together for 5 years now and ever since we have started playing together our goal has been to win a state championship.
And now, we have the opportunity to do just that. So again no, we aren't surprised about our success it has been expected out of us.
Are you guys approaching the upcoming game against Lakes any differently from any other games this past season? Is there anything that stands out on Lakes that your team has been focusing on this past week?
This week versus Lakes is no different than any other week. We understand the importance of this game but every game this season has been important. Each game has been a stepping stone for us to get better and better and this week is no different.
Lakes is a very good team just like everyone else in the state tournament but this week we more focusing on being disciplined and staying focused for every play.
If you could name one pro or college football player that you model your game after, who would it be, and why?
This is probably an obvious answer but Reggie Bush is a guy I would like to model my game after. He is an all-purpose back that does just about everything including returning punts and I am sure he would make a great corner back as well. He definitely one of if not the fastest guys in the NFL and it would pretty cool to be just like him.
It seems you have really broken out this year into a really solid player especially on the special teams, what do you credit your success to and why?
It has been a total team effort. It starts with our coaches and goes down to my teammates who do not get credited enough. Our O-Line has opened up great running holes for Mike Bush and I and they make it easy for us.
Our kick-off return and punt return squads take pride in our special teams because we want to prove that it really is one of the best in the state.
What's your head like going into the big game tomorrow night? Do you have any game day superstitions?
I get a nervous excitement for every game but a game of this magnitude like tomorrow night is always a greater feeling of excitement and nerves. Especially because I know this is my senior year and last chance to play for a state championship.
As for game day superstitions, before our pre-game meal I sit by the same group of guys and on the bus everyone sits in the same seat. As well as listen to Till I Colllapse by Eminem on my iPod.
