The defensive end of the run was courtesy of the agile mind of Lorenzo Romar, who made a late game defensive change and stuck 6-6 Justin Holiday on Florida point guard Nick Calathes, who’d been killing with the Huskies’ smaller guards on him. Calathes had 20 points and 8 assists in the game’s first 36 minutes, he had just one point in the last four with Holiday shadowing him.Talk about a nice turnaround. The Huskies could have easily not put up maximum effort and lose even worse than the Kansas game. However, they gave it their all, kept on shooting with confidence, despite their bad shooting the night before. They ended shooting over 55%, a significant improvement from the Kansas game. Justin Dentmon had a big night by going 5-5 behind the arc.
Even though the Dawgs lost both games, this tournament was a success. Playing against high-level competition will be good for this team entering conference play. Although there are several issues to be addressed, big strides are being taken and the Huskies are finally starting to play as a team.
Go Dawgs!
