UW Hoops: Class of '09 Recruiting Class

A couple of weeks ago Lorenzo Romar signed one of the top recruiting classes in the country. Here are the four players that will be suiting up for the Dawgs next year:

Abdul Gaddy

After committing to Arizona and then decommitting, and then committing to Arizona again, and then finally decommitting one final time, Abdul Gaddy has signed with the Washington Huskies. Thank you Lute Olsen for quitting (in a total jokingly way of course). On a more serious note, the Huskies now have the No. 2 point guard recruit in the entire country, Bellarmine Prep's own, Abdul Gaddy.

Gaddy has an uncanny ability to make others around him much better. He can create wide open shots for others with his above-average ball-handling and driving ability. A natural point guard to say the least. If there is one weakness in Gaddy's game, it is his strength. He needs to bulk up while he's in college if he wants to compete at the NBA level.

He will undoubtedly make a huge impact on the Huskies. He will most likely start in the back court with current Husky point guard, Isaiah Thomas. Thomas and Gaddy will combine to make up one of the most feared back courts in College Basketball. What is the best part of all of this? Because of the NBA's new age requirements, Gaddy will have to stay at UW for at least two years. He will be 17 years old entering next January.

Clarence Trent

This former Gig Harbor star is a 4 star recruit according to Scout.com. Trent transferred to Findlay Prep in Nevada for his senior yearto clear up any academic issues that would prevent him from playing basketball his freshman year. This season will be his second and last season at Findlay Prep. Trent's decision to go to UW will mark a return to the Northwest.
Trent has yet to define himself as a 3 or a 4, but his lack of a defined position could be strength at the collegiate level. Playing two positions = Versatility. Versatility = Valuable. However, my bet is he turns out to be a forward at the 4 position. He's got the NBA body with his height and long arms and he is also very bouncy and can get up easy. May I make a Shawn Kemp comparison?

CJ Wilcox

Wilcox could be the next Tre Simmons or Ryan Appleby as Wilcox himself is a gifted outside shooter. He specifically chose UW  because of Romar's uptempo style of play. He is sort of a dark horse recruit as his name was out there, but no one was really making a huge fuss over his skills or shooting ability. Hopefully this is a diamond in the rough for Coach Romar and his staff. You can see Wilcox's light out shooting ability here.

Charles Garcia Jr.

Charles Garcia is a monster. At 6' 9" and 220lbs, Garcia might help fill a big void that will be left by Brockman next season. From the reports I've seen, scouts have labeled Garcia as a "versatile" big man who can guard all five positions on the court. Along with that, Garcia can play the three or the four causing defensive mismatches for the oppossing team. Garcia is the one player other than Gaddy that I believe will start making an impact the moment he steps foot on campus at UW.
