The Shorewood High School basketball team was one of the best in all of the WestCo conference last season led by thier star forward, Josh Hawksinson, who averaged 18 PPG. I recently had a chance to catch up with the touted prospect and ask him a few questions about his college options, skill set, and summer basketball plans.

SeaTown: What would you consider your strengths and weaknesses on the court?

Josh: My strength is my diversity. I can score in the post, but then I can step back and hit 3’s and outside shots. So I feel like I’m hard to guard because of that and it makes me a threat. While I can get better at things, I really don’t have a glaring weakness.

First off congratulations to Kamiakin on their victory last Saturday, defeating Eastside Catholic and winning the 2012 3A State Baseball Championship. But now it's time to take a step back and conduct a season review of the Metro League. Who were the best players, coaches and teams? Find out below.

Success? : Many people counted out the Metro League to be competitive this year, and were focused on other top divisions: KingCo, Big Nine, SPSL. A total of four teams from the Metro Conference made it to the State Regionals, and two teams, Blanchet and Eastside Catholic, made it all the way to Pasco. We were even close to seeing Blanchet and Eastside face each other in the title game. If Blanchet doesn’t blow their lead in the 7th inning, you could be reading an article on the Metro League capturing its third title in the last five years.

Despite Eastside Catholic losing in the state championship game, this season was a success. During regionals, Eastside Catholic defeated the No. 2 team in the state and one of the favorites to win the tournament, Mount Vernon. Unranked Blanchet knocked off the No. 6 ranked team in state, Mountain View, in their regional. To add on to the success the league had this year, let’s go back to the regular season and look at Seattle Prep. Yes they did fall short of Regionals this year, but in the regular season they were the best team in state, with a top pitching rotation and an undefeated record/No. 1 state ranking.

Evaluating The Kellen Winslow Jr. Trade For The Seahawks

This is Chris Brown's first article as a member of the SeaTown Sports staff. We are excited to have Chris join the team!

Last week, Seattle and Tampa Bay agreed to terms on a trade which sent Kellen Winslow to the Seahawks for a conditional 2013 6th/7th round pick.  Winslow was not happy in Tampa Bay, and reports coming out of Buccaneers camp were that the tight end was going to be released in the coming days if he could not be traded.

The 28 year old self-described “soldier” out of Miami came into the league in 2004 as the sixth overall pick chosen by the Cleveland Browns. Despite missing all but two games in his first two years in the league due to major leg injuries, Winslow has been surprisingly consistent. He has ranked among the top 10 in receptions by a tight end in every season in which he played all 16 games (missed six games in 2008 with a staph infection he blamed on the Browns’ medical staff), including a league leading 89 in 2006. The results speak for themselves; the man makes plays.

David Marshall struggled early, but ended up going the distance on the mound for Kamiakin as the Braves defeated the Eastside Catholic Crusaders 3-2 to win the WIAA 3A State Baseball Championship on Saturday evening at Gesa Stadium in Pasco.

Marshall was inconsistent in the early stages, walking 3 Crusaders. But he finished off strong and ended up tallying 11 strikeouts, including the final out of the game when he whiffed star hitter Jeff Bohling on a full count offering with the potential tying and winning runners on base.
