Oak Harbor high school basketball player Michael Washington Jr. committed to Princeton Thursday.
The 6'3" shooting guard averaged 18.2 points per game for Oak Harbor HS in his junior year and starred on the top team for Friends of Hoop during the AAU season.
"After visiting Princeton, I just felt like it was the right place to be. They have a really nice campus, great coaches, and a bunch of good guys on the team. The academic piece of it played a big role too; a chance to get an Ivy League education is something kids dream about and to play basketball at a high level at the same time is a bonus. I can definitely see myself fitting in well with their program," said Washington.
SeaTown Sports ranked Washington as its No. 13 best player in its state basketball player rankings back in February. Washington's best strength is his scoring ability, but he also thrives in transition and is an active athletic player on both ends of the court.
Since Princeton is an Ivy League school, Washington has not been officially admitted into the school yet, but probably has received a "likely letter,"
"Admissions Offices at each Ivy school may offer some athletic and other candidates a "likely" letter, which has the effect of a formal letter of admission provided the candidate continues to have a satisfactory secondary school experience. Coaches may initiate the requests for these letters, but only the office of admission can issue a"likely" letter." (Via: IvyLeagueSports)
Other colleges that were courting Washington included Seattle U, Air Force, American and Hartford.
Here's an earlier interview SeaTown Sports conducted with Washington back in May.
