What a week. Jackson pulled a huge upset, with a 70-54 win over Snohomish, almost exactly like the 41-63 loss Snohomish suffered against Mountlake Terrace last week. It was all Jackson, all the way, holding Snohomish to 9 points the first two quarters, leading by 26 at the half.
Oh, but it doesn’t stop there. Stanwood came right back at Jackson, and pulled a small upset with a 57-53 victory. All of a sudden, the WesCo 4A conference has become a whole lot more interesting. Snohomish is back on top of the North division after Lake Stevens lost to Kamiak, 60-72, and Jackson is in the lead of the South (over Edmonds Woodway, who also suffered two losses).
All in all, WesCo looks a whole lot different this week than it did last week.
SEE THIS WEEK'S RANKINGS AND PLAYER OF THE WEEK AFTER THE JUMP!
Player of the Week: Jason Todd, Jackson (Sophmore)
You all remember Jason Todd right? He was one of the stars on the Mill Creek Little League team that went to the Little League World series (and got to the semi-finals). Well, he’s a pretty good young post for Jackson too. He put up a total of 48 points against Snohomish and Stanwood, two very formidable teams. Of those 48, 27 came in Jackson’s big upset over Snohomish. Also, a quick note about Terry Dawn, he scored 59 against Mariner and Kamiak this week.
Runners Up: Loren Lacasse (Mountlake Terrrace), Cannen Roberson (Stanwood), Terry Dawn (Arlington)
Top 10:
1. Mountlake Terrace (12-0) We knew this team was good, but not this good. Over halfway through the season and still undefeated? A pleasant surprise for MTHS. One thing worth noting however: Ryan Shannon started on the bench against Meadowdale (due to pain in his right leg), and the Hawks were nearly losing in the first quarter against the Mavs without him.
This Week: Everett (1-9), Shorecrest (7-4)
2. Arlington (7-5) After MTHS, all of these are interchangeable for the last nine spots. Personally, I think Glacier Peak could even be number 2. I’m taking a big gamble, but with the way Terry Dawn is playing, Arlington may pull out a couple of big wins against Jackson and E-W.
This Week: Jackson (8-4), Edmonds Woodway (8-4)
3. Jackson (8-4) Okay, so I was partly wrong. I said to watch Jackson against Snohomish to see how good this team can be. Then they lost against Stanwood, a game I overlooked and expected Jackson to win. Nevertheless, this is still a team that’s continually improving, and with Sophomore Jason Todd leading the team for the next two years, expect big things from the Timberwolves.
This Week: Arlington (7-5), Monroe (6-6), Marysville-Pilchuck (1-10)
4. Shorewood (9-2) I’m sure a couple of you are wondering why I kind of hate on Shorewood. This is why: the Thunderbirds beat Meadowdale by just five points. Five points. The only team ahead of them in 3A, Terrace, beat Meadowdale by 27. That’s a big difference
This Week: Lynnwood (1-11)
5. Snohomish (9-2) From No. 1 to No. 2, and now to No. 5. What a fall for Snohomish, who suffered their second consecutive loss, this time to Jackson. I’m still sticking with my guns though, and with an easy week (only challenge is Kamiak) Snohomish should bounce back nicely.
This Week: Mariner (0-12), Cascade (3-9), Kamiak (7-5)
6. Stanwood (7-6)
This Week: Mariner (0-12), Edmonds-Woodway (8-4)
7. Kamiak (7-5)
This Week: Monroe (6-6), Marysville-Pilchuck (1-10), Snohomish (9-2)
8. Lake Stevens (8-4)
This Week:Cascade (3-9), Australian Traveling Team (no clue), Mariner (0-12)
9. Edmonds-Woodway (8-4)
This Week:Marysville-Pilchuck (1-10), Arlington (7-5), Stanwood (7-6)
10. Glacier Peak (8-4) Like I said, I believe that nearly any of these teams could be put nearly anywhere on this list.
This Week: Meadowdale (6-8), Marysville Getchell (1-11)
