With the Terrence Jones fiasco over, it is time to start looking forward to the next batch of recruits that Coach Romar and his staff will be pursuing to fill vacant roster spots.
One of the highly touted recruits that Romar has already offered is a 6-3 shooting guard out of Oakland, California. Jabari Brown is currently ranked No. 5 at his position, right above the No. 6 ranked Tony Wroten.
Scouting Report:
As a player, Brown is a gifted scorer. He is aggressive in attacking the basket and can finish consistently around the rim, but at the same time his biggest asset is his ability to shoot from the perimeter. His three-point range is one of his main strengths as a player with his mid-range game being well above-average.
A Rivals.com scout said this about Brown's scoring,
"there might not be a better shooter in the country. And don't tell Brown that the midrange jumper is a lost art (I don't believe that anyway and am tired of hearing that.). Brown will drain it from 10-feet just as easily as he will from 25-feet."
Potential:
One weakness that has been highlighted by scouts is his defensive presence. Though he can get by with his athleticism on the defensive in high school, he won't be able to get by that way in college. Defense is something that can be taught, but the scoring ability and athleticism (see crazy dunk) of Brown can not be taught.
Recruitment:
According to this video, Brown currently has eight offers: Washington, California, Arizona St., Wake Forest, UNLV, Maryland, and New Mexico. Thankfully, Kentucky does not show up as a college of interest. Brown would obviously add to an already guard-heavy roster, but his ability on the offensive end, makes him an instant upgrade to any player currently sitting on the bench for the Huskies.
If other top programs like Kansas end up offering Brown, UW will have a tougher time getting him to sign with them. Along with that, California sounds like a tempting option, especially if Brown wants to follow in the footsteps of Oakland-native Leon Powe. I don't know if I'd prefer Brown over Wroten, especially because Wroten is such a gifted passer, but I wouldn't be disappointed if the Huskies were able to net themselves this five-star recruit.
