Eastside Catholic’s basketball program is on the rise with the help of new head coach Bill Liley and star player Joey Schreiber. Schreiber is a senior forward who has led this team to an 8-3 overall record. The senior is averaging about 19 points a game, and is a pain to guard downlow. I had the opportunity to talk with Schreiber about recruiting and his team's success. Read it after the jump.
SeaTown Sports: Your team (Eastside Catholic) has had a great year so far, what do you think is the key to your team’s success?
Joey Schreiber: We have a new mentality that before each game we truly believe that were going to win. This [mentality] has translated to how hard we work in practice and in the games.
SS: Describe your game. What are your strengths?
JS: I can do a lot of different things. If you put a big guy on me, I can beat him off the dribble or shoot the three if he sags off of me. If you put a guard on me, I can post him up and shoot over him. I’m also long and athletic so that gives me a good advantage.
SS: Is there anything you feel like you need to improve on?
JS: Probably finishing through contact and getting the “And 1."
SS: Any schools interested in you?
JS: Point Loma, Air force offered, Chaminade in Hawaii, Western Washington, Pepperdine has been at all the games during the Christmas tournament and I've heard there interested.
SS: Are there any scheduled visits you have made or plan on making with these schools?
JS: I visited Point Loma in October. I talked to Western and I will visit them after the season. It’s hard to visit during the season because of practice 6 days a week.
SS: When do you think you will make your decision?
JS: After the season. Or if something comes up that I really can’t wait on then it could be earlier.
