SeaTown Sports got the opportunity to interview Marcus Trufant after his appearance on Cliqvue's Sports Talk Show, "Off the Cuff with Moore and Huff." What follows is a quick conversaition with Trufant about his offseason and a couple of other topics. Read the interview after the jump.
SEATOWN SPORTS: When's the last time you visited Pullman?
MARCUS TRUFANT: I didn't go back for a long time, but I just went back for the spring game. That might have been in March, or something like that. I went back, and I was in Spokane actually, I wasn't in Pullman, I was in Spokane, over at Joe Albi Stadium. It was a nice event, and they had us up in a nice hotel, with all the coaches and stuff. It was a good time.
SS: So, clearly you must watch the Apple Cup?
MT: Yes, I do watch the Apple Cup.
SS: Cheer for the Cougs?
MT: Well, I cheer for my brother of course. But, I'm a Coug at heart. So you know I guess I cheer for the Husky defense, but I cheer for the Cougs. You know I'm kind of split right down the middle.
SS: So have you had a chance to train with your brother at all?
MT: Yeah I've trained with him from time to time, but you know we hang out all the time. Every now and then we go back to Tacoma, and our parents cook for us, and stuff like that. So we all get together so it's cool.
SS: It's been tough listening to the news surrounding the NFL lockout, and obviously it's a big topic in sports right now, so how do you feel about the possibility of not having a season this coming year? Has it changed your workouts at all? Or how are you preparing for what’s coming this fall?
MT: As of right now, I'm just trying to prepare as if the lockout would be over tomorrow. Because you don't really know exactly when were going to be back to work, when were going to be back in full speed on the field and stuff like that. So you just got to train hard, stay in shape, and just be ready to go to work because as of right now, there's no telling. It's just hard to say.
ML: So you have been training at UW then?
MT: Yes, I've been training at UW a little bit. I have another guy a train with in Bellevue. I train with a guy by the name of Tim Manson, and when I first started training, I was training with a guy by the name of Bernard Watkins over in Bellevue too. So you know, I just try to stay in shape.
SS: So do you think the team will be able to gel this year? It was a tougher go last season but you picked it up in the playoffs, and the team has been successful in the past obviously. Do you think you'll be able to pick up where you left off and come together despite all this hype of the possibility of not having a season?
MT: I think so, I think so. I think all the teams in the league are going to be a little bit behind just because we haven't been able to come together as usual, as far as mini-camps, and the rookies, the draft picks and all that kind of stuff. So I think it's going to take a little bit of time as everybody gets together. I think it'll just be like riding a bike, I mean you get back on and you go to work.
SS: How do you feel about the defense?
MT: I love defense man. The defense is going to be good man. I mean we have a lot of key guys, a lot of guys coming off injury, a lot of guys who have had surgery and stuff like that. So I think that once all this stuff is worked out, everybody will be ready to go.
SS: So lastly, what are you aspirations, goals, for this season? What are you trying to accomplish this season?
MT: All my stuff is all about the team man. It's all about win win win, as many games as possible. And just go out and make it happen, and have fun.
SS: That sounds great. Alright well I really appreciate your time, and best of luck. Thanks again.
MT: No problem man, no problem.
