Junior Quarterback Jason Thompson is already impressing scouts on the football field. Thompson has helped lead the Lancers to an overall record of 5-1 and a perfect conference record at 4-0. Kennedy Catholic is in familiar territory, as they are primed to take the Seamount League title and make a run in the playoffs. We got a chance to talk to Thompson about his season along with his thoughts on the team's success so far. Check it out after the jump!
What are the team's goals going into this season? Are you guys on track to reach them?
Our first goal is to win our league and then win the state championship, we're still on track to do both.
The league is relatively softer than most other leagues in the state. How does the team stay focused and perform at a high level consistently on a week to week basis?
Coach has us practice up-tempo and he makes sure that we don't forget the fact that anything can happen if we don't get things done. He talks about last year everyday.
What improvements have you made at the Quarterback position so far this season?
Mostly my decision making; not trying to force throws that aren't there, and keeping my eyes up.
Are there any pro/college players you model your game after?
Kellen Moore at Boise State and Dennis Dixon when he was at oregon.
Are you looking to play football at the next level? Have any colleges shown interest yet, if so which one?
Yes: Boise State, Oregon, LSU, Nebraska, and UCLA.
What would you say your biggest strengths are right now?
I'm able to move the pocket and keep the play alive. I don't force things that aren't there. I keep my team fighting when things go bad and I lead by example.
What are some things you still think you need to work on?
My form, my ability to read coverages, and getting used to dropping straight back since I roll out on most pass plays.
