Center fielder Senior Mike Shanahan is a member of the second ranked Bishop Blanchet Braves. The Braves are one of the top teams in 3A and are currently in the hunt for a state title. We got a chance to talk to Shanahan about his season so far and his thoughts on the post season. Check out the interview after the jump!

What was the team's mentality like entering the season back in March?

Entering the season we all had the same mentality that we had last season. Our goal is and has been to win every game win metro and win state.

Did you have any personal goals?

My goals were to hit over .400 and win a lot of games. Both of those happened, I hit .426 and we only lost like 3 games.

What school posed the biggest challenge to Blanchet this season?

Eastside Catholic. If they are playing well, they are a very good team and our games against them could go so many ways. We killed them one game they killed us in the next game. And last year both games were decided on walk offs

Who's your favorite pro baseball player?

Prince fielder, he's huge, hits bombs and even though he's kind of big and kind of fat he runs hella fast. Or Dustin Pedroia, he's tiny, but he plays so hard every game. Even though he's small he tears the cover off the ball and also plays amazing in the field.

The team gets a lot of attention with its ranking and with Josh being a pro prospect, how does the team keep its focus?

Well, simply we don't really think about that stuff. We just go out everyday and play. Josh always has a lot of people at our games watching him, you get used to it.

Did you do anything this off-season differently than previous off-seasons to help prepare you for your last season of high school baseball?

I probably worked way less on my swing. But I definitely worked harder strengthening my arm. Me and shortstop Brandon Boehm began throwing all the way back in October of 2009 in preperation for the season and we would throw maybe three times a week even though the season was many months away.

Well, good luck the rest of the way and thanks for your time!

Thanks a bunch man
